The Story of GCW

Post by admin » Thu Mar 14, 2019 2:36 pm

Global Championship Wrestling was a co-venture by two individuals with big egos and big brains when it comes to the wrestling business; Matthew Alan and Mike Michaels. Matthew had been a wrestling promoter on the independent circuit for quite some time before meeting Mike Michaels, whose siblings were professional wrestlers themselves while he served as their manager. Matthew and Mike combined their efforts and unique talents to start a new company which they called Global Championship Wrestling. GCW produced many great World Champions such as Steve Powers and Adam Craig, collectively known as Anti-Authority, Cuchulain, Dustin Windham, and Kayla Jones. Near the end of 2002, Mike Michaels made a deal with Dan Herrera, the owner of rival organization International Division of Wrestling, and agreed to a merger of the two companies. This merger created Global Division of Wrestling but it also forced Matthew Alan out of power as he was not part of the merger package. Matthew and Mike have been heated rivals ever since.

Global Division of Wrestling would continue to grow and evolve under the leadership of Mike Michaels and Dan Herrera, becoming a global powerhouse promotion, hosting events in countries all over the world, producing Hall of Famers such as "The Silver Eagle" Andreas Lasiewicz, Jason Redfield, Jake "The Heartthrob" Storm, Angelica Jones, and "The British Bombshell" Glory Braddock. The success of GDW continued until 2012 when the company started to have financial difficulties. All seemed lost until former GDW World Champion Glory Braddock bought their trademark and copyright to the Global Championship Wrestling name. Glory Braddock would bring back GCW with the first ever Resurrection event. This boost of revenue would keep GDW going for just a brief period; not too long afterwards, GDW would close its doors for good and Glory would return to buy out all of GDW including all of its rights and privileges to go along with her newly Resurrected GCW. The newly acquired GDW would boost GCW's talent and resources exponentially. What began as a small promotion with just one show, Shotgun, forced the now large company to change its setup. Now there would be two shows; Shotgun and Livewire. And as time went by, more and more talent would come to GCW and Glory decided to expand the company into two brands...Shotgun would be its own independent brand with its own world champion, the lineal and original GCW World Champion. Livewire would become its own independent brand with its own brand new world champion, the GCW Global Champion. Each brand would have its own General Manager.

In early 2015 The GCW Board of Directors would strip Glory Braddock of her power to act as CEO and overall decision maker of the company. She still remained owner but could not make decisions that impacted the company. Power was granted to Henry Van Stanton. The Board of Directors did this at a time when Glory Braddock had begun to publicly acknowledge GCW professional wrestler Aphrodite Noel as her Queen and 'Mother'. Feeling that the potential for conflict of interest was there, they decided to take action and give full power to act over to Van Stanton, who at the time was GCW President. Henry Van Stanton's rule over GCW would last from early 2015 all the way until early 2019 when Henry began to openly abuse his power in favor of his brother Mason Van Stanton and Mason's clientele of wrestlers. Glory Braddock attempted to use this public abuse of power as an excuse for the Board to put her in charge again but the Board still felt she too may abuse power and would not make the move. So at Resurrection VIII Glory Braddock would put her career on the line alongside Timothy Myers against Henry Van Stanton and Mason Van Stanton, both of whom were accomplished wrestlers in their own rights. Henry would put his power to run GCW on the line against Glory's career. Glory Braddock and Timothy Myers would win that match and thus Glory Braddock would win back control of GCW.

When Glory Braddock regained control of the company she made changes to management. First, she made Tabitha Silverstone General Manager of Shotgun, promoted Livewire General Manager Francis Taylor to GCW President to replace the now unemployed Henry Van Stanton, and hired Pete Floyd to be the new Livewire General Manager. When Pete Floyd was injured by an attack from Dustin Adams, Glory Braddock gave the Livewire General Manager duties to Tabitha Silverstone, making Silverstone the sole decision maker on both Shotgun and Livewire. And to prove to the Board of Directors that she was not going to be a tyrant, and to also provide a check upon her power just in case she did ever did, Glory Braddock sold a minority share of the stock to Aurora Alan, the youngest sister of the GCW Founder Matthew Alan. This was also done as a peace offering to the Alan Family, many of whom were still angry that they were forced out of GCW through shady business dealings in 2002. A few months later Glory Braddock decided to take an indefinite leave of absence from her corporate duties. Braddock maintained majority ownership of the company but did relinquish the role of Chief Executive Officer to Aurora Alan. Under Aurora's leadership GCW expanded to add a third show named Fever with GCW Hall of Famer Angelica Jones as General Manager of Fever.
